After India's triumph down under in the U19 World Cup in 2012, Ian Chappell rated Harmeet as the second best spinner in the world after Graeme Swann. Such high accolades were followed by comparisons with the great Bishan Bedi, owing to his fluid bowling action and ability to release the ball with languid ease. At a time when IPL teams had to sign up Indian domestic players outside of the draft, there was a dogfight among teams to secure the left arm spinner. Such was his promise with the ball that it took then Rajasthan Royals captain a personal phone call to sway Harmeet's decision to pick the Royals as his first IPL team in 2013.

The season was sadly his first and last as Harmeet became an untouchable commodity in Indian cricket in the aftermath of the 2013 spot-fixing saga. Harmeet was cleared almost immediately after a BCCI inquiry but over time
