In the recent DY Patil Group-managed T20 tournament in Mumbai, Shashank Singh led the B side of the eponymous group. Among those who played under him were the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Ayush Badoni. More pertinently, Shikhar Dhawan also joined the team as a professional and played under Shashank's leadership.
Fast forward to the IPL, there is a role reversal. However, according to those closely associated with Shashank, a 32-year-old battle-hardened cricketer from the Mumbai Maidans, it's more of a role appreciation. "I'd call it role recognition," comments Subramaniam Doraiswamy, the coach of the DY Patil Group B side. "Shikhar has observed Shashank closely and seen his batting. Hence he offered him an opportunity right from the first game of the season at Punjab Kings."
