Musheer puts another impressive step forward

In what has been a rather productive year for 19-year old Musheer Khan, a back-to-the-wall 105* on the opening day of the Duleep Trophy against an experienced attack only served to underscore his temperament in the red-ball game. Musheer started the year with a couple of hundreds against Ireland and New Zealand in the Under-19 World Cup before scoring a double hundred for Mumbai in the Ranji quarterfinal, a fifty in the semifinal and another hundred in the final. His selection for the Duleep Trophy - a tournament littered with the best of domestic talents - this year was as much a result of the terrific form as well as the potential for higher honours.

While the Under-19 World Cup might have pushed him into the limelight initially, Musheer reveals that all his focus has been trained towards the longer formats. "Whatever practice I do with my dad is all around red-ball cricket," he said in a press conference at the end of the first day's play in Bengaluru.
