For some time, Travis Head has been perceived as the precocious batsman in waiting. As testament to his standing, the elegant left-hander became the youngest-ever South Australian captain when he took the reins at just 21 years of age.

Head makes most of top-order opportunity

Following a long line of Australian batsmen, Head was being groomed as a future star and his progression was confirmed when he soon started playing limited-overs cricket for Australia. Since debuting in the One-Day International (ODI) arena in mid-2016, Head has become a regular member of team batting order but has been unable to cement a position amid Australia's stuttering batting line-up.
The 24-year-old has had to perform numerous roles, including as an opener, No.4 and middle-order finisher. Frustratingly, he hasn't quite nailed down any of the roles but started the series against England at No.4 before being promptly dropped after failures in the opening two games.
