The news is that Hardik Pandya has been handed his T20I cap. What an amazing past 7-8 months it has been for the Baroda lad. From being an unheard commodity when he first created waves for the Mumbai Indians in the previous Indian T20 league, to an Indian international player today.

Jasprit Bumrah too gets his T20 debut today.

Also, Travis Head could be making his Australia debut too.

Hello and welcome to our live blog of the first T20 of the three-match series between Australia and India, at the Adelaide Oval. It's Australia Day for the hosts and Republic Day in India.

Yuvraj, Nehra, Harbhajan, Raina, have all been named in the Indian squad and it'll be interesting to see which one of these, and how many of these make their international comeback today. Similarly, Shaun Tait has been called by the hosts out of the blue.

Earlier in the day, the women's team kicked off their three-match T20 series with a 5-wicket win over the hosts at the same venue, courtesy Harmanpreet's 31-ball 46.

Australia have won the toss and elected to field first. Shaun Tait and Shane Watson back in the side for Australia and Yuvraj, Nehra, Raina are all back in the team but Bhajji misses out.

David Warner and Aaron Finch, Australian openers, have taken the hosts off to a quick start, unleashing the attack on the Indian bowlers - Ravichandran Ashwin and Ashish Nehra. They have scored all around the park, punishing even the slightest of errors.

You can't keep Virat Kohli out of the game for too long . David Warner mistimes a pull off Jasprit Bumrah and the Indian vice-captain takes an easy catch at mid-on. A critical strike for India.

Steve Smith looks to play the ball through the leg-side. But ends up getting a leading edge which goes to Virat Kohli at extra cover. For some reason, Kohli seems riled up. He gives a long send off to Smith

Ravichandran Ashwin joins the party. Aaron Finch who had dominated the off-spinner in the Powerplay, succumbed later while trying to play a sweep shot. The opener failed to pick up the line and missed the ball completely which pitched and hit his thigh right in front of the wicket.

The left-armer has troubled the Australian batsmen today and helped India come back into the match. Travis Head, who is coming into the match at the back of a superb Big Bash league season, is dismissed plumb way too early for his liking

Shane Watson goes for the big slog sweep. But the ball bounbces and gets the top edge of his bat. Ashish Nehra keeps his nerve to ttakle the catch comfortably. Fifth Australian wicket down.

Hardik Pandya may have gone for 19 runs off his first over and for a few more off his second. But he came back well to snare two wickets off consecutive deliveries to peg Australia back and put India in a commanding position in the match. He dismisses Mathew Wade and Chris Lynn.

Indian bowlers continue to pick wickets almost every over to ensure that Australia don't get a partnership going. Ashish Nehra uproots Kane Richardson's stumps while Bumrah accounted for Faulkner and Boyce's wicket to bowl Australia out for 151.
