It has all come down to this. With the series at stake, both sides have fought tooth and nail to take it down to the final day. A lot of credit must go to Pakistan for not succumbing easily at one point. After conceding a mammoth lead of 220 runs in the first innings, their bowlers put up a strong show to dismiss Sri Lanka for just 96 to ensure the target was gettable.
Their batsmen though made a mess out of the run chase and their defensive approach didn't help matters. At 52 for 5, Pakistan were expected to fold easily in the final session yesterday before Asad Shafiq and Sarfraz Ahmed staged a remarkable fightback. Pakistan now need 119 runs to win this Test and square the series in order to preserve their proud record at their adopted home. Sri Lanka on the other hand, need five more wickets to pick up a rare away series win.
The visitors know that they need just one more wicket in the first half an hour or so to still stay in the game. How will Shafiq and Sarfraz approach this now? They were quite aggressive yesterday, taking their chances to ensure 146 runs came in that final session. They will probably look to employ the same tactics today as well. Shafiq's heroics in Brisbane under the lights went in vain but will luck be on his side this time? Let's find out! Welcome to the live blog for the final day of this cracking Test series.
