Can the inexperienced NZ side overcome the experienced Bangladesh side? © AFP
Bangladesh win by 7 wickets to take 1-0 lead! It is Bangladesh's first win over NZ in men's T20Is. It was only a matter of time before Bangladesh's batsmen scaled the target of 61 for a comfortable win. The total just wasn't enough, even though New Zealand struck early to pick up three Bangladesh wickets. Full credit to Bangladesh's bowlers who were right on the money. While the spinners took advantage of the sharp turn available, the pacers were adept with their change-ups as New Zealand's batsmen looked rusty.
All in all, Bangladesh will be thrilled to the start they've made in the series, continuing from where they left off against Australia. New Zealand have a lot of thinking to do and will want to better their performance in the remaining four games. Thank you for your company today, do join us for the next T20I. Until then, goodbye!
OUT!Shakib is caught by Latham as Rachin Ravindra picks up his maiden T20I wicket. Latham takes a good catch. But Bangladesh only have 24 runs to get.
Drama! Bangladesh are two down! Ajaz Patel has Liton Das stumped and Bangladesh are 7/2!
OUTT!! NZ strike early.Debutant McConchie strikes with his first ball in T20I cricket to get Naim. Nicholls at cover makes no mistake.
We're back for the chase. How many overs will Bangladesh take to chase this down?
NEW ZEALAND ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 60 - it's their joint-lowest total in T20Is. Their innings lasted just 16.5 overs. The last man to go is Jacob Duffy who falls to a brilliant catch by Saifuddin. There isn't much to say about New Zealand's innings or the approach of their batsmen. But credit to the Bangladesh bowlers who kept NZ under pressure from the outset after being asked to bowl. After being reduced to 9/4, it's tough for any team to make a comeback. Yet, Nicholls and Latham resisted Bangladesh and added 34 runs in the middle. However, it was a procession that didn't stop thereafter. Poor shot selection from some of NZ's batters didn't help either, but Bangladesh were clinical with the ball. The chase should be a straightforward one for the hosts. Join us for that in a bit.
NINE DOWN!A cutter and the Fizz has his second wicket as Bracewell is caught by the fielder at fine leg.
OUT! The Fizz knocks Ajaz Patel over.
OUT! It's a wickets highlights package, this.Another batsman throws his wicket away... It's unlikely NZ will even reach 100 or even see out their 20 overs. They are 52/7 now.
And another! Two debutants and both have ducks against their name. Cole McConchie is the other after Rachin Ravindra and New Zealand are 45/6.
OUT! Ouch, my apologies to New Zealand...Latham goes for the hook and Saifuddin strikes, breaking the partnership. Latham falls for 18.
New Zealand are holding on with Latham and Nicholls fighting it out there in the middle.
